Little Fires Everywhere

Feb 1, 2022 | Healing Thoughts

On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’” (When He said “living water,” He was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in Him…)
John 7:37-39 NLT

I was reading the plot for the book, now a Hulu series, Little Fires Everywhere. While someone actually does set little fires, my attention got stuck on all the different interactions of drama between the characters.

Those interactions are in and of themselves “little fires.” I think back to the drama in my life before I had a relationship with Jesus. I was constantly having to try to put out all the little fires in my life. And those fires weren’t just in one or two of my relationships. They were burning everywhere!

I lived from one crisis to the next crisis! As an alcoholic and drug addict, I brought my matches everywhere I went. Often times, I was the one who lit the little fires in my life. However, the other people in my life, at that time, also had pyromaniac tendencies.

When I came back into a relationship with Jesus, I hate to admit that I clung to my matches for quite awhile. It is hard to break the cycle of “living from crisis to crisis.” But I found out really quickly that it is near impossible to light little fires everywhere when you are hanging out with the Man Who is the Living Water!

Do I never have little fires in my life anymore? No, I still have some. And yes, I admit I occasionally light one. Thankfully, walking with Jesus enables me to have those fires put out quickly. I go to Him in prayer and He puts them out!

If you are surrounded by little fires everywhere, I encourage you to call out to the Living Water, Jesus. He hears our cries. And He will put out all of them when you ask Him to!

Until next time blessings and healing
