Heart Art

Welcome to

The Heart Stories

Here you will find my artistic journey as I create what is on my heart.

In order for me to create art, it has to be placed on my heart.  I can’t have someone suggest what I should create.  I am in awe of artists who can create commissioned works.  I’ve tried several times to create art for people based on what the would like me to create.  To say that they ended up disasters is an understatement.

I have to feel the art in my heart before I can take the first step in my artistic journey.  I am motivated by my faith and my social work degree with most of the art that I create.  I enjoy creating art that depicts Biblical concepts, mental health issues, and healing.  (With a dash of childhood memories, Sci-Fi, surrealism, and animals thrown in the mix.) The foundational layer of my art is often a verse of Scripture that ties into the artwork and the writing that accompanies it.

The How

A quick peek into my creative process: All of the artwork starts as an impression in my heart.  I get ideas from reading, listening to audiobooks, from online teachings, movies, television shows, and lots of other places.  I then quickly jot down my ideas in my Evernote application.  Once I’m ready to start creating the actual artwork, I create the character in Daz Studio.  I use Photoshop (and Procreate) for any postwork I choose to do.  Most pieces take me 10+ hours to create from start to finish.

The software I use is Daz Studio which is a 3D model/scene creator and rendering software that enables me to create images and video.  It has a variety of human figures and characters that are built on a base mesh.  Through a variety of morphs, added to the base mesh, unique figures and characters can be created.  There are also props and environments to make full scenes.  I use these to create original artwork.

My mind creates the images
that flood my heart…

The Featured Projects

Artwork that ends up in the Featured Project section will have a blog post to accompany it.  The post will give you an insider’s look into the meaning behind the finished artwork.  Sometimes the art is my interpretation of art class I am currently taking.  Or the art might have been inspired by an issue that tugged at my heart.  And other times it is simply an idea/memory that made me smile. If you would like to explore the artwork on a deeper level, I invite you to read it’s corresponding blog post below.  Thank you and have a blessed day.

It’s Beginning to Look…

It’s Beginning to Look…

I have been on a quest. A quest to try to create a variety of children models that I can use for my artwork. It has been a process to find child characters that are close to actual human child proportions. Slowly, I been purchasing younger characters, morph packs, and...

At Home in Jesus’ Love

Like a Child

People brought babies to Jesus, hoping he might touch them. When the disciples saw it, they shooed them off. Jesus called them back. “Let these children alone. Don’t get between them and me. These children are the kingdom’s pride and joy. Mark this: Unless you accept...

How Big Is God’s Shovel

How Big Is God’s Shovel

And since it is through God’s kindness, then it is not by their good works. For in that case, God’s grace would not be what it really is— free and undeserved.  Romans 11:6 NLT   Did you ever notice that we tend to love to pile up guilt, blame, and shame on ourselves....

Love Seed

Love Seed

We seem to be living in a culture of meanness.  Many of us have forgotten how to be gentle with others.  Social Media offers us a platform where we can use our voice to propagate our agenda.  And whether we want to admit it or not we all have an agenda.   Agenda is...

Victoria 9 Skin Textures

Victoria 9 Skin Textures

This image started out as an experiment in G9 skin. I really don't have a clue about skin textures, normal maps, or any of that stuff. But I've fiddled around enough in the Surfaces tab to see that different dials have different texture images attached to them. And if...
